Lucas A. Brewer, LPCC-S,
Family Matters Ohio
Lucas specializes in teaching children and adults how their bodies communicate through emotions. He uses a combination of psycho-education and talk therapy to assist in the empowerment of individual growth.
Lucas started his counseling career working with adults who struggled with addiction. He has been trained in 7-Challenges, Motivational Interviewing, and a number of other addiction treatment modalities.
With an interest in being proactive against addiction, Lucas then left the adult population and began working with children, as a School-Based Therapist. He received training in Play Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, Reality Therapy, DBT, Positive Behavior Supports, Mindfulness, and Solution Focused treatments. Lucas worked with a number of children on the Autism Spectrum, as well as children who struggled with self-harm, depression, anxiety, impulse control and anger. To further his understanding of Autism, Lucas has taken courses in the Social Communication, Emotional Regulation, Transactional Support (SCERT) model, and also became certified to do ADOS-2 assessment for Autism.
Before entering into private practice, Lucas worked as the clinical supervisor at a Therapeutic School for 4 years. Lucas realized through his work with children and their families that Family Dynamics plays a huge part in a person's development as an individual and in their ability to thrive.
Overtime, Lucas began to notice how trauma affects development, and much of his practice focus has since shifted to Trauma-Focused Psychotherapies including Brainspotting, Prolonged Exposure, and Trauma Informed Care. Other services offered include: Couples Counseling, Individual Counseling, Parent Skill Building, Autism Assessment and Support.
